Emily the Emerald Fairy (Jewel Fairies 3)

Emily the Emerald Fairy (Jewel Fairies 3) by Daisy Meadows

The girls are in the toy story with Dad. Father wants to go explore the trains (as much for a gift as for himself.) The girls notice some magic. Then they find Emily the Emerald fairy. They know her jewel must be nearby. They find it in a stuffed cat's eye. Just as they are about to get  it, a goblin swoops down in a toy airplane and graps the stuffed cat. They have plenty of fun using some toys and a bit of fairy magic to finally get the stuffed cat and the emerald. Then they find dad, who now has plans for a train set of his own. The toy shop setting makes for a fun goblin fight sequence.

I Am Both: A Vietnamese Refugee Story

I Am Both: A Vietnamese Refugee Story by Kerisa Greene

A Vietnamese family gets out of Vietnam on the last commercial flight (thanks to family airline connections.) They adapt to new life in the United States. It is very different. They even pick a new name and have to learn a new language. The girl at the center of the book realizes she is both American and Vietnamese. The book shows the positive experience that kids can have even as life poses many challenges.

Barn Storm

Barn Storm by Charles Ghigna and Debra Ghigna, illustrated by Diane Greenseid (Illustrator)

A big storm causes havoc on the farm, moving animals all over the place. After the storm is over, the animals are all in the wrong place. There is not much story, but there is some funny juxtaposition of animals and inappropriate places.
