Silent Spring

Silent Spring by  Rachel Carson

DDT and other pesticides are really bad. They hurt people and animals. Broad chemical pest controls may cause a short term fix, but typically result in a long term harm. We should instead focus on narrowly focussed, less toxic means of reducing pests. Silent Spring has plenty of examples, and is fairly well written. It was an influential book that helped lead to the reduction in DDT use. Alas, the lesson learned was narrow, and we we continue to use different broad-based chemical pest controls with various negative impacts.
