The Danny and the Dinosaur Treasury: Three Huge Adventures

The Danny and the Dinosaur Treasury: Three Huge Adventures by Syd Hoff

This treasury includes

Danny the Dinosaur (1958)

Happy Birthday, Danny and the Dinosaur (1985)

Danny and the Dinosaur Go to Camp (1996)

I'm a bit baffled about the dates. Everywhere I see claims the Goes to Camp was copyright 1996, yet this treasury was clearly copyrighted in 1993. There is no additional copyright date shown for the two additional stories.

The original story is half the book. The other two are half the length of that book. There is a huge gap in time from when they were written, yet the stories could easily fit in the same time line.

In the first, Danny runs into the dinosaur in the museum. It is just natural for everyone to do things with the dinosaur.

In the next, Danny is celebrating a birthday, so the dinosaur does too.

In the final, the kids go to camp. The dinosaur makes camp a lot of fun in a different way.

The later stories do continue in the same spirit of normalcy with the absurd.

Oliver

Oliver by Syd Hoff

Oliver is an elephant. He has a "roll with the punches". He is on a ship with other elephants destined for the circus. However, the circus doesn't need him, so he goes into town. He tries the zoo, but he is not needed there. He tries to be a pet, but it doesn't quite work out. Eventually, he starts playing with kids. He has fun, and then starts dancing. Nobody pays attention to the circus parade due to the dancing elephant. He then finds his dream job of joining the circus.

Happy Birthday, Danny and the Dinosaur! (I Can Read Level 1)

Happy Birthday, Danny and the Dinosaur! (I Can Read Level 1) by Syd Hoff

This Dinosaur book lacks the charm of the original Danny and the Dinosaur book. The story and the drawings just are not as good. Danny has a birthday. He invites the dinosaur. There are a few special dinosaur things that are done, but not much that is significantly interesting.

Danny and the Dinosaur

Danny and the Dinosaur (An I Can Read Book) by Syd Hoff

A boy goes to the museum to see a dinosaur. He wishes he could play with the dinosaur. The dinosaur wishes he could play. They become friends and go about doing things together. There is a happy naivety  in their interactions. It is almost normal that a boy hangs around with a dinosaur. They do plenty of things to help other people as they are having fun. Then the dinosaur returns home to the museum.
