Captains Courageous

Captains Courageous by Rudyard Kipling

The narration of this audiobook left a lot to be desired. There were some kids that were out on a see somewhere on the east coast of the US. The kids come from a moneyed background. There are trains and other "modernish" technologies. Things happened, but I had trouble having any interest in what they were.

The Jungle Book

A boy is raised by animals. Some like him. Others don't. He gets fire from people and then goes to live with them. The names can be difficult to keep straight. The pictures and stories are not bad, but does go on for a while without much happening.

Great Classic Stories

The problem with listening to short stories is that if you zone out for a bit, you pretty much miss the entire story. Some of the stories were easy to grasp in the time. Others I just glossed right through. I liked The Monkey's Paw, Dr. Heidegger's Experiment, the Tell-Tale Heart and Pat Hobby & Orson Welles. As for the others, I either zoned out for a bit and didn't grasp the story, or paid a attention and didn't like it. Maybe I'll need to go back at a later time. Or perhaps I should just focus on the ones that were the most accessible.

Jungle Book

The BBC produced a radio-play of some of the best stories in Kipling's Jungle Book. It was also distributed free in Britain (and is available at archive.org, with a claim that it is in the public domain.)

It tells some of the stories of a boy that was adopted by wolves and lives his life in the jungle. He does not fall victim to the trappings of wealth as do most other men. There are also other moral teachings in the book. (Modern Cub Scouts adopt some of the characters are teachings of the Jungle Book.)

The production is well done, and provides another adaption of popular stories.
