The Rise and Decline of Nations: Economic Growth, Stagflation, and Social Rigidities

The Rise and Decline of Nations: Economic Growth, Stagflation, and Social Rigidities by Mancur Olson

This book took an economic look at what causes nations to rise and fall. There are a lot of words, but not a whole lot of ideas. When nations get a lot of rent-seekers, they do not prosper. Protectionism causes nations to function inefficiently. Special interests seek out their personal gains to the detriment of society as a whole. The mechanisms may differ from country to country. Big government, big business, and unions can all be instigators of poor economic behavior.
