Lady Anna

Lady Anna is set in 19th century England, where class is all-important. The novel revolves around marriage. Should the nobel marry another nobel? Or is it ok to go down in class? It feels so foreign to sensibilities of today. Anna's mother had tried to "marry up". However, the validity of this marriage is tied up in courts. Everything can be resolved if Anna marries a certain nobleman. However, she wants to marry a tailor. What is the benefit of nobility if it just makes life worse?
