Zeno's Conscience by Italo Svevo
The novel is framed as a memoir written by a man undergoing psychiatric treatment. His psychiatrist sees it as a way to help the process. It starts with him talking about his failures to quit smoking. He later delves into his family life as well as other love experiences. He has challenges with his life and doing what is best. The novel was good at first, but I gradually got lost as he rambled more.
The Unnamable by Samuel Beckett
Somebody is trapped in an odd existence and wonders what is going on with him and the outside world. It is a weird rambling experience. I found this one more accessible than the others in the trilogy. Trying to find a plot is next to impossible, but the rambling is interesting.
Malone Dies by Samuel Beckett
I wanted to like this book, but could not understand what was going on. Malone was dying. He was also going crazy. It was hard to follow with the accented reader.
Molloy by Samuel Beckett
Beckett wrote Molloy originally in French, then later translated to English. The audiobook is narrated in English which makes it somewhat hard to grasp. Molloy is an old guy meandering around town. At times he is sucking on stones and determining how to count them. Later somebody is sent to track down Molloy. He ends up losing his abilities in the process. This may be better read so as not to be distracted by the accent.
There are soldiers that have been stuck in the forest for years. They do not claim to be "lost". They just went to a place where they wanted to be. There are some main characters that struggle through what they are doing.
Don't ever go back until you know where you are going.
