Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr, illustrated by Eric Carle

This was first published in a "different form" in 1967, and then newly illustrated in 1992. I'm not a big fan of the illustration style. However, the text is great for kids. It's rhythmic and follows a pattern that young ones love to follow.

Chatter, Chirp, Bark & Buzz

Chatter, Chirp, Bark & Buzz by Eric Carle

The book is designed to go with some special reader device. We just have the book. It talks about various animals and their sounds. I'm not a huge fan of the patchwork style of illustrations. The kids liked the sounds from the animals. However, these were just at the start and the end.

The Grouchy Ladybug

The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle

A ladybug in a bad mood gets in a fight with another ladybug. However, the grouchy ladybug says the other is not big enough to fight. The grouchy ladybug then picks a fight with bigger and bigger animals, culminating in an attempt to pick a fight with a whale. The whale flicks the bug back home. There the ladybug decides it is better to be at peace.

For the animals, the pages and the font size get bigger and bigger as the animals get bigger. The book is creatively designed, even if the story is a little bit drawn out.
