Corduroy is a bear at the department store. He wants to be bought by a good. However, it is pointed out that he is missing a button. He goes a trip to find one, and tries to get one from a mattress. This causes a ruckus and attracts the night watchman, who returns him to the toy department. The next day, a girl comes in and buys him. He is happy when he goes to her new home. This is a classic book with a simple tale about a toy coming to life for a short time. It is a bit more believable than Velveteen Rabbit.
