Somebody writes to the zoo and asks for an animal. He keeps getting animals that he does not like, so he sends them back. The flaps provide a nice touch with the "package" of the animal, and then the actual animal inside. The book can be read fine without the flaps (because flaps have a habit of disappearing.) Each animal has a humorous way why it is not good.
