The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida by Shehan Karunatilaka
This book is about Sri Lanka. That part is clear. Beyond that, things get weird. There is narrative about the atrocities and the culture of the country. There is plenty of cruelty going on. There are also positive things with the life there. The "story" somewhat gets lost in all the description.
