Tibetan Peach Pie: A True Account of an Imaginative Life by Tom Robbins
Tom Robbins grew up in the south and eventually found himself writing in the Pacific Northwest. On the way, he had had plenty of experiences. At time she found his accent was the wrong southern accent. He got in trouble for doing various bits of mischief. He honed his writing craft. He got kicked out of school. He joined the military. He wrote for newspapers. He used snarky behavior when reviewing symphony performances. He thought he would get in trouble, but instead just got attention. He did go on to become a fairly well established novelist, even an oddball "male" feminist writing.
