In an eastern land, the brewing of tea is a special art that is also infused with magic. The right tea can grant a champion special strength. After a girl's mother dies (and her sister is poisoned), she enters the contest at court. She discovers many bits of courtly intrigue going on there. She eventually ends up unjustly jailed before she is rescued. She has a goal of brewing the appropriate tea to rescue her sister. It is a different situation with strong imagery, but I had difficulty engaging with the story.
