There are wizards. There is a class system with rich and poor people. There are different understandings of what makes good magic (with class playing a role in this.) After a spell goes wrong, a bunch of kids end up in the middle of nowhere. They try to make it back. Things don't go well. In one case they stumble on a drug operation that does not think too fondly of intruders. Luckily, one person has a device that can "still a few hours of time" and get it back. They managae to survive their adventure. The story seemed a little too long, and my interest would fade in and out.
