The Nordic Way

The Nordic Way: Discover The World's Most Perfect Carb-to-Protein Ratio for Preventing Weight Gain or Regain, and Lowering Your Risk of Disease: A Cookbook by Arne Astrup, Jennie Brand-Miller and Christian Bitz

Eat a balanced diet with low glycemic index foods with a carb:protein ratio of 2:1. Make sure the foods are good ones that you like. This will help you maintain a desire weight. That is the "Nordic Way". The authors see this is a "maintenance" diet. It is not something to help you to lose weight. Instead, it is best to keep in a steady state. The bulk of the book contains recipes. It seems a fairly logical take on "don't eat junk food!"

The Flavor Equation: The Science of Great Cooking Explained in More Than 100 Essential Recipes

The Flavor Equation: The Science of Great Cooking Explained in More Than 100 Essential Recipes by Nik Sharma

This cookbook is elegantly designed with beautiful pictures. The recipes are primarily Indian-influenced and tend towards the "complicated trendy blog" style recipes. What makes this book, however, is the details behind the "science" of food. The author had studied biochemistry before migrating to cooking. He explores the different chemicals that provide the taste. There are detailed descriptions of various tastes and how they work. The makeup of different foods and cooking processes are also well covered. It is worth reading for this information.

No-Recipe Recipes? What are those? In this case, they are list of ingredients and instructions, but without detailed quantities. There are instructions on what to do, but just no quantities for the recipes. The book covers a number of different areas (but no baking.) when you have a bunch of ingredients and want to throw them together, this is where you can turn.

Milk Street: Cookish

Milk Street: Cookish: Throw It Together: Big Flavors. Simple Techniques. 200 Ways to Reinvent Dinner by Christopher Kimball

This cookbook looks pretty good. It aims for 6-ingredient or less recipes that can be compared in less than 30 minutes. However, rather than being a "put a box of mix in the oven" of some books, it looks for cooking "good" food. It looks for areas outside of northern europe for ways of cooking that bring out flavor and make tasty food.
