Accidental Tyrant: The Life of Kim Il-Sung

Accidental Tyrant: The Life of Kim Il-Sung by Fyodor Tertitskiy

The official life history of Kim Il-Sung has little bearing on reality. His regime has created an "official" version that makes him a near deity and removes anything that may be unpleasant or against the common narrative. The country has continued to be ruled through three generations of Kim's making it a unique dynasty without being a monarchy. He had communist leanings and was aligned against the Japanese rulers of Korea. The world powers ended up making him leader of North Korea. He may have been confused with others with a similar name. He was in the right place and the right time. Since then, he was taken advantage of the position to exert further control.
