Xander is a middle schooler that lives in the Mountains up from San Diego. His dad is Japanese, while his mom is Irish. His mom left when he was young, and he has lived with his Dad and grandma. He is good with computers and drawing, but not great at school. He has a friend that is smart and a great athlete.
One day, he notices that he has drawn strange pictures that he doesn't remember drawing. He gets in trouble. Later he is with his friend when they see a big flood. His dad tries to save them. They then learn from grandma that he is a protector and the stories they have heard of Momotaro are "history" and Xander is also in a similar role. They follow their history in a comic book and gain powers such as wings as they go on their quest to help save the world. They succeed and in the end mom comes back. The book takes a few "leeps" to keep the action going.
