This feels a lot like the Spy School series, only this one came first. NERDs are special children government operatives. Tech is used to turn their weaknesses into strengths. One bully jock finds himself ostracized from his friends because he has braces. He manages to sneak into the N.E.R.D.S space and has his braces turned into nanotech weapons. A separate thread follows the life of a child beauty queen turned goon for hire. They all meet as part of an evil plan to move the continents. They help save the world, with socially inept kids realizing they don't have to harm others, and the former bully jock realizing that nerdiness that sports aren't everything. He and his brother both now favor intellectual pursuits more. It is a fairly standard "being a reader is cool" ending to an elaborate spy story.
