I was intrigued by this book after seeing the title. Dictionaries and words are an interesting subject. Lost words ads some intrigue. I really wanted to enjoy the book. I just had trouble getting involved with the characters.
The book traces the history of a fictional girl that was raised by her father around the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary around the early 20th century. She comes of age around words, but also discovers that many words (especially vulgar ones related to women) are missing from the dictionary.
The words part was more appealing than the the story of her life. But even that had something to be desired.
