The author of Rogues uses a fairly exhaustive definition of the the word to lump together a dozen vignettes of (in)famous characters. There is the story of the Mexican druglord "El Chapo" as well as celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain. A section covering the Boston Marathon bomber focusses more on his defense attorney. She has worked tirelessly to get life sentence instead of the death penalty.
The book leads off with a story of wine fraud. The fight to uncover the fraud is more interesting than the fraud itself. Many collectors accumulate wine without intention of drinking it. They may never realize they have been duped. Transactions often take place in private limiting the detailed oversight. There is also the matter of taste. People may prefer the cheap wine to the expensive stuff. Identifying fraud requires digging into the history of engraving, nuclear particles and more.
