The Jazz of Physics: The Secret Link Between Music and the Structure of the Universe

Stephon Alexander had two passions: Music and Physics. In his memoir he ties them together. The book takes us through his time as a child, with his family encouraging him to become a pianist. He decided other instruments were preferable and had a preference for the music of John Coltrane. He also loved science. He would combine the experience of Jazz improvisation with theoretical astrophysics. In both there are some basic rules that keep some order. Within those rules, there are great amounts of randomness and improvisation possible.

Rather than spend time building up the relationship between jazz and physics, the author spends most of the time covering his academic autobiography. Jazz pops out here and there, but what does seem more common is the bit of chance randomness.
