The second Skyward book reminds me of the Star Wars prequels. An Alien crashes on the human planet. Spensa feels coordinates of the location and goes off in disguise to a strange world on a mission to steal a hyperdrive. There she gets to know the many different specials that make up the Superiority and "lesser species". The exploration of the different types of "people" is an interesting exploration of differences and inclusion. Some have gender. Some don't. There are many different eating habits and reproduction processes. Habits of some species may be repulsive to others. The thing that everyone seems to share is a hatred towards humans and a fear of Delvers. Spensa (in disguise) gets in the middle of a complex political campaign that could lead to the end of the Galaxy. She ends up getting pulled in to situations that require both social and battlefield skills. She also realizes that just because you are the same species does not make you allies (and vice versa.)
I read through this book quickly, finding it difficult to put it down. (Alas, the audiobook is an audible exclusive and not at any local library.)
